Paul Gascoigne’s agent says the England legend needs help having started drinking excessively again, we’ve taken a look at five of his best football moments.
Make what you will of Gazza but it’s extremely depressing to see one of England’s great players falling victim to the bottle all over again. There is plenty doing the rounds about Gazza’s relapse but we wanted to take a look back at some of his more positive days.
Gazza will always be more known for his days at Tottenham Hotspur but he had a brilliant spell at the Scottish club scoring 30 goals in 74 appearances including an incredible hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Aberdeen.
England v Scotland
One of the England moments that Gazza will always be remembered for is his goal against Scotland at Wembley in Euro 96. He flicked the ball over the top of a Scottish defender before drilling a half volley low into the corner of the net as England went onto secure a 2-0 win.
He didn’t have the best of times or records during his time at the Italian club but he produced one superb piece of individual brilliance which showed everyone across Italy and the world what he was all about as a player.
During the World Cup semi-final against Germany in 1990, Gazza was booked during the course of the match which would have meant him missing the final had England gone on and won the match. It was something which reduced him to tears, which showed his softer side.
When he was asked for a post-match comment following a Lazio game by a TV reporter, Gazza responded by burping down the microphone. It was something he was fined £39,000 for doing but something which is still quite funny to watch to the day.
What do you think were his best moments?
