2. 1789 - Electors unanimously chose George Washington to be the first President of the United States

3. 1913 - Rosa Parks is born

4. 1922 - Lincoln purchases the Ford Company for $8m dollars

5. 1927 - Malcolm Campbell sets a new land speed record when he reached 174 mph in his Bluebird supercar on Pendine Sands in Wales

6. 1932 - The first Winter Olympics are held in the United States at Lake Placid, NY

7. 1945 - U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet leader Josef Stalin begin a conference at Yalta to outline plans for Germany's defeat after World War Two

8. 1959 - The Barbie Doll is invented 

9. 1972 - Comedian Dara Ó Briain is born

10. 1974 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono temporarily seperate

11. 1997 - A civil jury panel in Santa Monica, California, determines that O.J. Simpson was guilty of the deaths of both his ex-wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. He had originally been acquitted in the year 1995
