Football League deadline day round-up: Including Upson and Doyle

Molineux - Wolves - Billy Wright Stand

Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Brighton all feature.

Leeds United managed to secure the loan signing of striker Mouhamadou Habib Habibou from Belgian side SV Zulte Waregem for the rest of the season provided the player makes international clearance. The departure of Luciano Becchio to Norwich City left a hole in the attack of Neil Warnock’s club.

Crystal Palace have signed striker Stephen Dobbie on loan from Brighton. Dobbie passed a medical late yesterday after it emerged that Palace were likely to miss out on George Boyd from Peterborough United. Dobbie has previously played for Ian Holloway during his time at Blackpool. Palace also snapped up Kvin Phillips from Blackpool, at the age of 39.

West Ham United goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has re-joined Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season. There were rumours going around yesterday saying Henderson would be used in a part exchange deal for Blackburn number one Paul Robinson.

Brighton did one of the best pieces of business on Deadline Day with the arrival of Matthew Upson on loan from Stoke City. Upson goes to Brighton with a large amount of Premier League and international experience and undoubtedly makes Brighton’s defence much better.

Wolves have retained the services of key striker Kevin Doyle following a late bid to sign him yesterday from Celtic. The Scottish giants tried to put together a permanent deal for Doyle but he will now stay with the Championship side for at least the res of the current season.

Peterborough United did want Liverpool couldn’t yesterday and signed Alex Pritchard from Tottenham Hotspur. Pritchard joins on loan for the rest of the season and the 20-year-old is rated as one of the best youth products to come out of Spurs for many years.

Birmingham City agree a deal to re-sign goalkeeper Jack Butland from Stoke City on loan for the rest of the season. Stoke put in a £4 million bid to sign the highly rated goalkeeper, who snubbed Chelsea earlier this week. It seems the deal depended on the player going back to his former club.
