David Beckham to PSG: Five Positives

Former England captain David Beckham is expected to be unveiled as a Paris Saint-Germain player later today.

There was a great deal of speculation surrounding David Beckham’s next move after he left LA Galaxy. It now seems Paris Saint-Germain have convinced him to sign and there are many positives to this deal for both Beckham and PSG as Becks prepares, for what is likely to be, the final move of his career.

This may sound like a cliché positive but Beckham’s experience is going to be vital to a club developing the way it is. Beckham brings the experience of having played football in England, Spain, Italy, the USA and at international level which can only help PSG over the second half of their season.

Dead Balls

Another cliché positive but another one that can’t be argued against. Beckham remains one of the best dead ball specialists in the game. He may not be as prolific as he once was but he can still take a decent free kick which increases his chances of scoring and providing assists for others.

PSG are geared up to be facing some extremely high pressure situations over the next month; the Champions League, the race for the Ligue 1 title. There could be some extreme pressure situations where Beckham’s knowledge of the game and character will be vital. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t send a penalty into row z at any point in the Champions League knock out stage.

The team at PSG is well suited to Beckham and is suited to get the best out of him. There was a lot of pressure on him in LA to be the driving and creative force at the club but he can preserve his career because he won’t be so tested physically at PSG. Think of a similar role for Beckham in this team which Ryan Giggs enjoys at Manchester United.

The biggest positive for Beckham personally is the location of this move, which allows him to go back and forth to England easily. Beckham has moved his family back to London and it’s also positive for PSG who won’t have to deal with him going back and forth to LA on a regular basis.

What do you think about Becks’ imminent move to PSG?
