Arsenal to make last chance bid for David Villa?

David Villa

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is understood to be preparing a last-minute deadline day bid for Barcelona striker David Villa.

The Gunners had at least one previous bid rejected by the Catalan giants who, according to the Spanish press, do not want to sell David Villa, despite the player desperately looking for a way out of the Nou Camp.

Villa has fallen down the pecking order since returning from almost a year out injured and has been hoping for a move away to gain access to regular first-team football.

Arsene Wenger responded to speculation of a transfer deal eelier this week claiming he had resigned himself to the fact that Barcelona do not want to sell Villa and, he claimed, he would therefore give up the chase for the Spaniard.

However, the International Business Times, along with Caught Offside are now reporting that Wenger is now prepared to table up to £13.8 million to temp Barcelona to grant Villa his wish to leave.

According to these reports, Arsenal will offer Villa a contract worth £110,000 per week. They are expected to make another bid of £11 million this afternoon, which is understood to be closer to Barcelona’s valuation of the player.

Villa’s current contract at the Nou Camp expires in 18 months and the club will likely be keen to get some return from the €40 million they paid Valencia for his services back in 2010.

Villa is thought to be valued in the region of £17.5 million however his willingness to league due to his unhappiness with his status with the Catalans could, compounded by his imminently expiring contract, and his 31 years of age could mean Arsenal could very well prove successful with their deadline day bids.

It is not an unusual occurrence that the selling club states publicly that the player in question is ‘unavailable’ and will not be sold and it’s equally not that unusual for Arsene Wenger to claim he is not trying to sign a player he is trying to sign.

I wouldn’t be remotely surprised to see him sign in the final hours of this January transfer window this evening.

Do you share Jen's confidence? Will Villa be an Arsenal player this time tomorrow?
