It has been a genuinely quiet day at The Emirates in regards to the closing of the transfer deadline but it certainly appears that one player will be arriving at the club before the 11pm deadline. Malaga and Spain full-back Nacho Monreal is reportedly in talks to agree a move to London before the end of the deadline after the two clubs agreed an £8 million fee for his signature. Malaga have already signed a replacement and he will give essential cover at left-back where the club are currently thin after injury to Kieran Gibbs and the poor form of Andre Santos.
Arsene Wenger has declared a deal to sign David Villa as dead. With no news on a potential move for Momo Diame it appears that Monreal will be the only player coming into the club this transfer window.
Kieran Gibbs will be out of action for three weeks. The England international injured his thigh in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Arsenal clawed back a two-goal deficit to earn a point with Liverpool last night. After various defensive lapses allowed Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson give the Merseyside club an initial two-goal lead goals from Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott drew Arsenal level. In the end Arsenal were unfortunate not to emerge victorious after Walcott came close with a curling left-foot effort.
Lukas Podolski knows the team have to start games stronger in order to finish in the top four. After giving away an early two-goal lead against Liverpool at The Emirates Arsenal dominated and the German international believes if the club can start games with more solidity they will inevitably surge up the table.
Dennis Bergkamp is in line to take over at Arsenal’s academy. The Dutch legend has spoken recently about a desire to return to North London and he is being expected to take over from Liam Brady after the 56-year-old decided to leave the club in 2014 after 25 years at the club. Bergkamp is currently assistant manager to Frank de Boer at Ajax and worked wonders with the Dutch outfit’s youth team in the past.
Arsenal have missed out on a deal to sign Fernando Amorebieta from Athletic Bilbao. The Venezuelan international was linked with a move before Arsenal decided to make a move for fell La Liga player Nacho Monreal.
