Juventus have been busy this January albeit with mixed results. While they first managed to tie down a deal to bring veteran striker Nicolas Anelka to the club on a short-term deal and finally agreed a summer switch with Fernando Llorente they have consistently fell down in negotiations to bring Lisandro Lopez to Turin.
They have also been unsuccessful in offloading some of the players they need in order to complete such deals including Italian international Fabio Quagliarella. He has been linked with returns to Fiorentina, Wolfsburg and Sampdoria and the journeyman striker has scored 10 goals in 19 appearances this season; but has not featured for 90 minutes in a single fixture and the Bianconeri see him as expendable if it means bringing in Lisandro.
So should Premier League clubs be chasing him; and if so which ones could complete a late deal for the player who turns 30 on deadline day?
West Ham United
West Ham striker Carlton Cole has recently been linked with a move to Turkish outfit Kasimpasa as well as Reading and Norwich. Even if they do not sell Cole another forward would not be remiss at Upton Park as they have been struggling to convert all their good play into goals in recent weeks. Quagliarella is the type of mercurial ‘Di Canio’ like character that could easily become a fan favourite at the club.
Spurs have finally wised up and realised they are in desperate need of another striker to ease the burden on Jermain Defoe, Emmanuel Adebayor and Clint Dempsey. While the rumour mill has generated last-ditch efforts to bring in Leandro Damiao signing him in January could prove difficult while a short-term deal for Quagliarella could indeed be a viable and financially efficient option.
Peter Odemwingie seems to have been abandoned as an option while an ambitious move for Peter Crouch would be a major coup but if all else fails the Juve striker could act as a superb insurance plan.
Balotelli has ventured off leaving City with just three front-line striking options. Could a potential loan deal for a player Mancini would know well from his time in Serie A be a genuine possibility? His agent is Giuseppe Bozzo; the same man who oversaw the loan-spell of David Pizarro at Eastland’s this time last year so it could be a possibility.
Do you think Quagliarella could make a last ditch move to the Premier League?
