6. 1952 - Truce talks aimed at ending fighting in the Korean War deadlock

7. 1965 - Thousands of people pay their last respects to Britain's greatest wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill, who is buried after a full state funeral

8. 1969 - The Beatles make their last public performance, giving an impromptu concert on the roof of their London recording studio

9. 1972 - British troops opened fire on civil rights marchers in Northern Ireland, sparking the Bloody Sunday massacre

10. 2002 - Slobodan Milosevic accuses the U.N. war crimes tribunal of an 'evil and hostile attack' against him. Milosevic was defending his actions during the Balkan wars

11. 2003 - British-born Richard Reid, the 'Shoe bomber', is sentenced to life in jail for trying to bomb an American Airlines flight carrying 197 people
