Norwich interested in signing former Ipswich 'wonderkid'

Norwich have been linked with signing former Ipswich Town forward Dean Bowditch.

Dean Bowditch? Remember the name? The chances are you do - He was once being touted around the Premier League's top clubs as 'the next big thing' - But can currently be seen plying his trade for MK Dons.

He's been linked with a switch to Norwich in today's Sun, so before we get to that, here's his story so far.

He made his Ipswich Town debut back in 2003 aged just 16 - Against Norwich. But it was the following season after he struck a hat-trick against Watford when he really carved a reputation for himself.

In 2004 he found himself linked with a big money to Liverpool. Bowditch himself tried to pay down the rumours:

"I really can't see me leaving here and if I do go it will be a few years yet. I like it here and enjoy it here. More than anything, I want to be here."

Well he was right, the Premier League never came calling, and he would not depart Ipswich until 2009.

Injury played a part in that, along with Ipswich's own struggles, and as he failed to fulfil the weight of expectation on his shoulders. He was loaned out to various clubs before leaving Town, including Northampton, Burnley, Wycombe, Brighton, and Brentford, neither with great success.

So at the end of 2008-2009, Bowditch found himself released by Ipswich, an unlikely end to his time in East Anglia after a dream start to his career.

He picked up at Yeovil Town, finishing his first season as top scorer, and at the end of the second decided to sign with MK Dons. There he remains, but has been reinvigorated by playing out wide - rather than as a striker.

It's worked wonders, he's scored nine goals and provided 11 assists already this season, so it's little wonder he is being courted by Norwich.

How serious Norwich's interest is remains to be seen- the report indicates there will be no move this month, rather in the summer, so much will depend on how they finish the season and if they can assure survival or end up relegated. It isn't impossible to think that the Canaries go down, and MK Dons go up through the playoffs and the two are in the same division next season.

Bowditch is still just 26, and has a lot to offer, seemingly with his injury issues behind him. It would be fantastic to see him finally get a chance in the Premier League.

We just bet he never thought it might be with Ipswich's local rivals Norwich.

Norwich fans how would you feel about Bowditch playing for you? How would Ipswich supporters feel about it?
