Three Manchester United players who need to improve

Which three Manchester United players need to step it up?

Sitting at the top of the Premier League table, looking in-form for the Round-of-16 Champions League clash against Spanish giants Real Madrid and thrashing Fulham 4-1 in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Saturday night- it is safe to say that Manchester United are well on course to claim illustrious silverware at the end of this season.

However, despite their impressive standing both domestically, as well as on the European front, there are still a few players who are yet to truly get their season off and running for the Red Devils.

In other words, in order to ensure that United don’t stutter away in the crucial coming months, there are some key players who need to buckle up their performances.

Here are three of them.

Antonio Valencia

After a phenomenal past season during which he was arguably United’s best player, Antonio Valencia has been struggling for form and consistency this term.

He has surprisingly lost his daunting ability to beat his marker in one-on-one situations and his crossing skills have also taken a mighty hit.

Since United play with a direct and counterattacking 4-4-2 formation, the team’s creativity is supposed to come from the wings, but due to Valencia’s mediocre form, his side’s prowess in the final third has been thus halted as the flanks fail to produce the needed spark.

Ashley Young

Another winger who is having a sub-par season is England international and currently injured, Ashley Young.

Like Valencia, Young has been largely frustrating on the wings- unable to produce the required ammunition to the supporters, not helping his defensive wingman when required and also been found guilty of giving away the ball way too easily at times.

With Luis Nani and Danny Welbeck now heavily competing for first-team places, the former Aston Villa man surely needs to improve his productivity for the Red Devils once he returns from his short injury layoff or face extended time on the bench.

Rio Ferdinand

Although he has shown massive improvements in the last few weeks, Rio Ferdinand’s age has gradually started to catch up with the veteran.

Pacy attackers have often troubled the former England international this campaign and the former Leeds United star’s man-marking attributes have also invited criticism from the football pundits.

The likes of Karim Benzema and Mesut Oezil will soon battle it out with the 34-year-old in the Champions League and Ferdinand therefore surely needs to enhance his output for United or face a possible bashing when Real Madrid lock horns with the Red Devils.

Which of the three are you most concerned about?
