Liverpool latest: Including Oldham reaction and late signings?

Liverpool are set to welcome back Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson and Pepe Reina for the mid-week Premier League match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. All three players were rested for the defeat against Oldham in the FA Cup but all are expected to start in the Premier League clash.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he is targeting more than one signing before the close of the January transfer window. Rodgers claims the FA Cup defeat to Oldham suggests that Liverpool still don’t have the squad depth enjoyed by some of their main rivals.

Pep Guardiola has reportedly been promised around £240 million to spend on transfers during his time as Bayern Munich manager. Recent reports have linked the German giants with a move to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool in a deal thought to be worth around £40 million.

Liverpool have a fight on their hands if they want to land Tom Ince from Blackpool before the end of January. Reading have entered the race to sign the Tangerine’s star player and have tabled a bid thought to be just under the £7 million mark which has been rejected by the Championship club.

Liverpool are casting their eye over talented youngster Alex Pritchard from Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs recently announced a deal to sign Lewis Holtby from Schalke at the end of the season which means Pritchard could be available in a bargain deal for any side interested in him.

Liverpool are locked in a battle with Lille to sign Valenciennes defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin. The highly rated and versatile defender is currently being valued at around £5 million by various media sources. TalkSport has suggested it’s a straight fight between the two teams.

Liverpool have refused to let key defender Sebastian Coates leave the club this January. Coates has been linked with moves to a number of top clubs but the Anfield side are seemingly reluctant to let him leave, as they need him for cover over the rest of the season.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he is confident his team can beat Arsenal away this week. Liverpool travel to the Emirates for a mid-week Premier League clash coming off the back of a poor result in the FA Cup against Oldham Athletic. Liverpool’s priorities are now the Premier League and Europa League.

Joe Allen says he took no pleasure from his first goal for the club. Allen scored in Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat away at Oldham Athletic in a match the League One side won 3-2. Allen bagged Liverpool’s second goal, which was his first professional goal for the club.
