News and gossip from The Emirates this past 24 hours.
One of Arsenal’s major shareholders has hit out at the clubs current transfer policy. Uzbekistani businessman was speaking to French press when he revealed his worries about how the club is struggling to hold on to their star players in recent years. The likes of Fabregas, Van Persie and Nasri have all left and Usmanov feels it has strengthened some of their biggest rivals while weakening their own team. He also says he has a very popular ally in his personal pursuit of control at Arsenal; claiming that Thierry Henry has urged him to formulate a takeover of the club in order to stop the trophy drought.
It has been revealed in some sources today that Arsenal fans fought among each other during the FA Cup tie at Brighton. A banner was revealed in the 80th minute which read ‘Arsene, thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye’. The unfurling of the message caused angry reactions from certain Arsenal fans and coupled with anger at the team and Andre Santos’s performance it led to ‘minimal’ outbreaks of ‘limited’ violence.
Adam Maher has been touted as a future Arsenal star by a bizarre source … his current coach. The 19-year-old Dutch playmaker has also been linked with a move to Manchester City and PSV Eindhoven in recent weeks but AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek thinks that Arsenal would be the perfect club for the Dutch international. AZ are currently struggling in the Eredivisie and are trying to move Maher on in order to bring in reinforcements.
Stoke City have become the latest club linked with a move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson. The young defender has lost his place in the first team since the return to fitness of Bacary Sagna and has been linked with several loan deals recently; including a concrete offer from Crystal Palace. Arsenal have recently announced they are not looking to let Jenkinson leave at the moment but Stoke may tempt them with an offer.
Transfer rumour talk now and firstly Arsenal have been linked with a move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. The Belgian only recently signed for Villa but he is a life-long Arsenal fan and considering Villa’s current troubles Arsenal may try tempt him away from Birmingham.
It is also being reported that Wenger is eyeing up the Bundesliga for new players. A double raid is being mooted for Andre Schurrle of Bayer Leverkusen and Liz Gustavo of Bayern Munich.
