Vydra a summer gamble worth taking for Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur could be targeting a Czech star currently playing in the Championship according to The Mirror.

Matej Vydra is not a name that many football fans will recognise unless you’re a passionate follower of the Football League.

The 20-year-old Czech forward is currently on loan at Watford from Italian side Udinese and his record at the club this season is attracting a lot of attention.

Vydra has banged in 16 goals in 24 appearances this season which is a very solid ratio at any level of football and The Mirror claim he is a target for the North London club.

With Emmanuel Adebayor away at the Africa Cup of Nations, spurs are left with only Clint Dempsey and Jermain Defoe as the attacking firepower at the club meaning Spurs could use some cover in attack.

Vydra seems to have the perfect combination of talent and experience needed to settle in at a huge club like Spurs as he’s already played for the Czech Republic at six different levels including four senior caps.

He signed for Udinese in 2010 and has since made only two appearances for the Italian side suggesting he’s not fitting in as well as they may have expected.

If Spurs are interested in him then they should be able to work out a reasonable deal with Udinese as he doesn’t seem to feature there at all. With him on loan at the Hornets, any switch would have to wait until the summer, but he could be an excellent value signing.

He seems to be at his best when he plays in the pocket just behind a main striker which gives him the opportunity to find the gaps in between the midfield and defence and exploit any space.

The only stumbling block is that this is a similar sort of role that Defoe likes to play at Spurs and he is head and shoulders above the other strikers at the club, in terms of his status at the club.

He seems hungry and ready to prove a point but another thing which could put Spurs off is his current Championship status and the fact that the Premier League with Tottenham is completely different from leading the line at Watford.

However, he seems to have a knack of scoring important goals frequently which could just be a gamble worth taking. It’s just a case of whether he would actually play or just join another big team to be farmed out on loan.

What do you make of Vydra Spurs fans?
