News, views, and rumours relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.
Tottenham suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Wigan on Saturday, and Latics midfielder Ben Watson has hailed his team's defence in helping it happen. He stated that the away side nullifying the threat of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon was a large contributing factor to the victory, and stated his team could have scored even more than the single goal.
Tom Huddlestone has spoken of the anger in the Spurs dressing room after their defeat. His words will come as little comfort to fans, but they could at least take comfort from the fact the players cared enough to be angry at the result. Jan Vertonghen has also spoken of his disappointment, but called for players and supporters to stick together and not turn on one another.
Andre Villas-Boas has spoken about Jermain Defoe's reaction to being substituted on Saturday. Defoe walked straight off down the tunnel rather than back to the bench, and his manager described it as 'not nice to see' and claimed the decision was to 'improve the team.' He defended his replacement Emmanuel Adebayor who was largely ineffective after his arrival.
AVB said: "In the games when he was available he showed the quality striker that he is. We have no doubts whatsoever. We have him fit now and hopefully ready for the next upcoming games. We know his ability."
However a report in the Mirror has claimed the Togolese striker could be on his way out of the club in January - To Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Falcao, if the Colombian leaves. The report adds that Adebayor would not be allowed to leave until Spurs find a replacement, but Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo is being lined up.
There is positive news for supporters, in that their under-21 side is topping the Premier League table in their age group. They demolished Newcastle 6-0 at the weekend, with goals from Ryan Mason, Alex Pritchard, John Obika (2), Dean Parrett, and Cristian Ceballos.
Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has said winger Wilfried Zaha is destined for a move to the Premier League. Tottenham are one of four Premier League sides who have been keeping track of the player and Holloway has suggested that he is already playing Premier League standard football.
Amusingly, for Spurs fans, the outspoken celebrity fan of rivals Arsenal, Piers Morgan, has called for former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp to replace Arsene Wenger. You can read the reactions of his fellow Gooners here.
