Will Lambert be sacked if Aston Villa lose to Millwall?

Things don’t get any easier for Paul Lambert as he takes Aston Villa into a difficult FA Cup tie at Millwall this evening.

The one thing Paul Lambert will be looking for is a positive reaction following the club’s demise at the hands of Bradford city in the League Cup semi-final.

The pressure has been mounting on him for sometime and he needs a win, now more than ever, in the FA Cup to release a little bit of that pressure and to get things moving forward.

Millwall is never an easy place to go to because of the historic reputation that Millwall fans have always enjoyed.

They seem to thrive on the occasions of a bigger side coming to their ground, which gives them the right to make as much noise as possible which subsequently makes things on the pitch more difficult for that bigger side.

Millwall are also doing well in the league, currently in ninth place and in with a solid chance of a play-off spot by the end of the season.

Millwall’s home record this season reads seven wins, two draws and five defeats which tells us they try to go for it in more matches than they try to contain teams.

They haven’t been spectacular in attack or defence with 20 goals scored and 17 conceded but this proves they are efficient at both ends of the pitch and stand a great chance of causing an upset.

Whether or not Lambert will get the sack after the game is a hypothetical question and it depends on the performance of his Aston Villa side, which has been abysmal at times this season and he’s still there.

However, there is no doubt that another poor performance to follow the Bradford defeat over two legs, will surely mean that he is quickly running out of time in terms of his career as Villa coach.

He has been given the backing of the powers that be at Villa following the defeat at Bradford but football can be a fickle sport.

So many managers in the past have come and go on the basis of one particularly bad result or performance and it just feels like it could be one of those evenings.

Millwall won’t hesitate to cause Villa massive embarrassment and they are a side filled with a higher amount of quality and precision than the League Two side, now in a final at Wembley.

Do you think Lambert will be axed if Villa lose this game?
