Will QPR double-raid on Blackburn make a difference?

Harry Redknapp

National newspapers are suggesting Harry Redknapp is lining up a move for a pair of key Blackburn Rovers defenders.

Harry Redknapp does make some interesting transfers. Some are logical and others just seem a bit bizarre.

The latest speculation sees the Mirror linking QPR with a move to sign Martin Olsson and Scott Dann from Blackburn Rovers in the Championship. Two players who played in the defence of the side that went down last season.

Olsson is valued at around £5 million by Blackburn with Dann thought to be available at around the same price.

Financially, it is a viable option for QPR because they do need extra options in defence over the second half of the season if they are to stay fresh and have the best chance of survival.

Pulling off a deal for Olsson will be the most difficult challenge that Redknapp faces because West Ham United and Norwich City are also in the mix for his transfer.

Dann seems to be a relatively unchallenged bid and an idea to simply add a bit of aggression and strength into the heart of the QPR defence.

It does seem a little strange as to why Redknapp is considering such a high turnover of players when many have suggested, the reason for QPR’s league position this season is the fact they brought in so many new players last summer.

In terms of what they can offer QPR, there are so very positive attributes they can bring to the side.

Olsson is a wider defender, a full back at heart but someone who can play through the middle if needed.

He will create extra width in the QPR side which gives them an extra option going forward. He will allow the midfield players to spray the ball out wide if they are finding it difficult to penetrate through the middle.

Dann will offer strength and leadership in the middle of the defence. He is very good in the air which will be useful combating sides that will attack QPR primarily through set pieces. However Rovers fans were immensely disappointed with his contribution in the Premier League last season after arriving on the back of a couple of excellent years with Birmingham.

It really is difficult to say whether concrete bids will be made for either of them because Redknapp is so unpredictable when it comes to the transfer window.

There could be nothing in the links but then he could sign both of them on the last day of the window. It’s a case of wait and see.

QPR fans, would you be happy with these signings?
