Manchester City, Chelsea, Stoke City, West Ham United, Fulham, QPR, Liverpool, West Brom and Sunderland players all feature
As the January transfer window starts to kick into action all 20 of the Premier Leagues teams have been attached to rumoured incomings throughout the month. But while they do go looking for new talent to improve their respective teams should they heed a warning from this decuple.
10. Andy Carroll
Signed on a loan deal from Liverpool after Brendan Rodgers made it clear the Geordie did not feature in his plans for the club. After a promising debut all seemed well for this transfer but he also picked up an injury in the same game and has not featured enough due to his long list of injury problems.
9. Louis Saha
To be fair Saha was never a long-term solution for Martin O’Neill but more a stopgap to support Steven Fletcher. He made 14 appearances for The Black Cats but he didn’t manage to find the net for Sunderland and now looks set for a free transfer to Bidvest Wits in South Africa.
8. Markus Rosenberg
The Swede has strong competition from the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie at The Hawthorns and has struggled when he has been on the pitch. He is the Premier Leagues worst player at getting caught offside and so far his Bosman from Werder Bremen has not worked out.
7. Modibo Maiga
Despite scoring a memorable goal against Chelsea earlier in the campaign generally the Malian has been used sporadically this campaign. Now away at the African Nations the £4.7 million paid for him is starting to look like a small waste of money.
6. Kieran Richardson
Signed for £2 million from Sunderland Martin Jol had big expectations for the eight caps England international. Since then however he has lost his place in the first-team and been told to buck up his ideas by the Dutchman.
5. Nuri Sahin
Liverpool stole the Real Madrid player from under the noses of Premier League rivals Arsenal with a loan-deal until the end of the season and everyone expected that deal to be made permanent in the summer. It has not quite worked for the Turkey international at Anfield and they have since let him go back to his former club Borussia Dortmund.
4. Jose Bosingwa
One of the pieces that was supposed to help QPR toward safety this season and he is being paid handsome wages at Loftus Road. But the ex-Chelsea man has played with disinterest in the White City and has fallen foul of the management and the fans; they are actively seeking to move him on this month.
3. Maurice Edu
One of many Rangers players picked up by Premier League vultures when the Glasgow club went bust this summer he described the move as a ‘dream come true’ at the time. He has played just once for The Potters and has been shipped out on loan to Turkish outfit Bursaspor.
2. Marko Marin
Signed from Werder Bremen for a fee in the region of £10 million this summer he came with the label ‘the German Messi’. Unfortunately he has suffered with injuries since he arrived and his physical stature appears to also be preventing him from showing off his talent in a Chelsea shirt.
1. Jack Rodwell
Everton cashed in on an undoubtedly talented but severely injury prone talent this summer to the tune of a potential £17 million. He played six games for City made countless mistakes in the heart of midfield and has been out injured with a hamstring problem since October.
Who do you think is the worst buy of the summer? Can any of these players come good in the end?
