Bayern Munich are lining up a £40 million raid of Liverpool for Luis Suarez, has the Guardiola effect already begun?
It was always going to be interesting to see how Pep Guardiola got on as Bayern Munich manager but before the dust has even settled, the German club have been linked with one of the best current strikers in the Premier League, with multiple sources discussing a £40 million bid.
One of the stipulations that Guardiola may have asked for from Bayern is large resources that would allow him to sign players which would drastically transform the shape of the current team.
Luis Suarez has proven himself to be one of the most efficient and difficult strikers to handle in England and Europe this season.
Guardiola is no fool, he knows the chances of taking half of Barcelona’s team with him to Bayern Munich are slim. If he wanted to sign Lionel Messi, it would cost around £250 million.
Therefore, Guardiola cannot be blamed for identifying certain types of players that fit in with his ideology and testing clubs with reports and planned bids for good sized amounts.
There are naturally going to be tens of dozens of transfer related stories appearing as we get closer to the summer linking Bayern with virtually any decent player who is available.
In the case of Suarez, a move is extremely unlikely as Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers recently dismissed rumours that Suarez could leave the club for Manchester City, which in terms of upheaval would be much easier for the player.
It’s a sign of things to come in terms of what to expect but don’t expect to see any confirmed signings before Guardiola is in the job.
Due to his success at Barcelona and the way he got that side playing football, he is likely to want to get stuck in and see what the current squad at Bayern offers him.
Then, and only then, can he say he needs certain players which will trigger the club to open the cheque book and go out to sign those players on decent long contracts.
Suarez has 20 goals in 30 games and there are few other strikers around that have proven track records at every club they have been at. We probably haven’t even heard the end of the City rumours either.
Liverpool fans need to sit tight, boil down that anger and wait for these rumours to die out. Suarez recently signed a new deal, and is enjoying his football. Not even Pep could tempt him, right?
Is there any chance of Suarez going to Bayern Munich?
