Five players who should leave Chelsea this January

Which players should consider leaving Stamford Bridge this month; either permanently or on loan?

Chelsea are constantly linked with bringing in new players due to their financial clout but there is case to say they should try clear out some of the deadwood while approaching potential newbies.

So which five should leave Chelsea this month?

Florent Malouda

I am not sure why there is not more clamour for the French internationals signature. It must have something to do with his wages because it cannot be based on his ability. The likes of QPR are reportedly now knocking at the door and rightly so as it is a travesty to see this player wasting away on the sidelines.

Marko Marin

The once heralded ‘German Messi’ has not quite lived up to his billing since arriving in London. To be fair to the lad has not been helped by injuries so perhaps he could be given the chance to play some first-team football in the UK for the rest of the season on a loan deal.

Yossi Benayoun

Yes Yossi Benayoun still plays for Chelsea. Hard to believe when you consider his last appearance in a Chelsea shirt was against Stoke in August 2011. His loan spell at West Ham was not a success and he has now returned to The Bridge after sustaining a knee injury. Reportedly fit within the next couple of months he should really start seeking a permanent move away from The Blues.

36-year-old Hilario will likely leave the club this summer when his contract expires; but with Ross Turnbull number two to Petr Cech and a decision to be made on Thibaut Courtois in the summer, Chelsea would do well to hawk him round for either a loan spell so he can get some football under his belt before he looks for a new club or retires, or simply get him off their wage bill early.

Fernando Torres

There comes a point in some relationships when a realisation has to be made. Yes at one point you found each other very attractive but that initial spark has gone and now you are simply going through the motions almost out of a sense of responsibility to the other party. It is unlikely to happen before the end of January but sooner rather than later this couple needs to realise the candle has blown out on a failed relationship.

Would you sell any of these players in January?
