Why Manchester City should be favourites to land Falcao

We all know the links behind Radamel Falcao leaving Atletico Madrid and coming to the Premier League but why is he most likely to join Manchester City?

It seems that Falcao has been touted around Europe to more clubs than any other player over the last 12 months.

If he’s going to move to the Premier League then there are two possible sides he could join; Manchester City and Chelsea.

Both clubs could afford his transfer fee and both clubs could afford his personal terms. Both clubs could also offer him the chance to win a lot of silverware but why is he more likely to join Manchester City?

If reports from Italy are to be believed then City are close to offloading Mario Balotelli to AC Milan and there are fresh reports coming out of Germany that Edin Dzeko will make a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

What this creates is a gaping great hole in the heart of the City attack which they will be looking to fill with one of Europe’s best strikers.

It’s quite simple, if a club sells a couple of players in one position then they need to replace those players to give the squad some extra depth.

Chelsea have been linked with Falcao for a very long time but the recent arrival of Demba Ba casts doubt over the intentions of the club inn signing Falcao over the coming months.

It’s difficult while there is no permanent manager at Stamford Bridge and with Rafa Benitez dodging difficult questions relating to the future of key players and his own future.

The manager that comes in this summer may make Falcao a top priority and then things change but we won’t know until that happens.

This allows City to basically gear up for a bid in the summer if they want to bring in the prolific striker.

Consecutive failures in the Champions League may also cause the club to spend big to reduce the gap between themselves and the best clubs in Europe. They will also be determined to wrestle the title back if they lose it to Manchester United.

It’s still a bit of a gamble and he could still stay in Spain with many online sources suggesting Falcao has met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

City’s cash means they are going to be in the mix whatever happens, if Roberto Mancini wants to sign Falcao this summer, he will be in with a shot as good as any.

Do you agree that Falcao is more likely to join Manchester City?
