Selling Balotelli could be City's biggest mistake

Most of the national newspapers are reporting that AC Milan are closing in on a deal for Mario Balotelli, could it be a mistake for Manchester City to sell him?

AC Milan and Manchester City are close to agreeing a £22 million deal for City striker Mario Balotelli but there’s a big reason it could be a mistake.

Balotelli is not going to be 22-years-old forever and sooner rather than later his antics on and off the pitch are going to decrease to a point where he becomes a more responsible and model professional.

At his very best, he is unplayable but his immaturity means he’s in the news as much off the field as he is on the field.

There has to be a cut off point where he realises that he can’t carry on abusing the gifted position he finds himself in as a professional sportsman earning amounts of money that most of us can only dream of.

When that point comes, whichever club he is contracted to, will benefit massively from having him as a striker.

Remember, this is the player that Roberto Mancini said could be as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo if he applied himself in the right way.

The City boss said Balotelli was too transfixed by the things which are not important away from the field, the things which get him into trouble and lead to him being fined two weeks wages by his club.

Will he be acting the same way when he’s in his late 20s, approaching his early 30s and beyond. It’s extremely doubtful.

There are also going to be significant changes in his life over the next few years in terms of friends and family, the kind of external things which seem to grow more important with age.

Add some maturity into the mix and you have a brilliant professional football player. It’s just common at the moment that clubs get sick of him and move him on.

Hopefully, he’ll work things out with City and stay at the club because the Premier League benefits from his quality and benefits from having him as a talking point for the Premier League.

What happens now is anyone’s guess. Some sources are saying Balotelli could go by the end of the week, by the end of the month or not at all.

His agent Mino Raiola is giving nothing away stating that he doesn’t know whether a deal is going to happen and confirming that Balotelli, but not Manchester City, has not held talks with the Italian giant.

Do you agree? Disagree? Let us know.
