Manchester United hand Mexican star a trial

Manchester United have given a one week trial to Mexican winger Jurgen Damm.

The Estudiantes Tecos player will link up with the Old Trafford club for seven days in a bid to prove himself to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and earn himself a potential move to the Premier League giants.

Varying Mexican media sources have confirmed the trial which will give the 20-year-old a chance to follow in the foot steps of Javier Hernandez who signed for United from his home country.

Hernandez may have even had something to do with getting Damm over to United on a trial as he is bound to have a solid knowledge of Mexican players, clubs and the Mexican transfer market.

It’s a good move for United in more than one way which will offer Ferguson the chance to sign a player that may have ultimately cost a hefty fee.

It provides United with the chance to watch him train and play in practice matches close up.

Therefore, they can quickly tell whether he has what it takes in terms of the standard at United and also in terms of the physical and aggressive approach of English football.

It’s also cheaper for the club than sending scouts out to Mexico to watch him play regularly for his club side.

Those scouts will still have an input but it saves a lot of time and money if it turns out that Damm isn’t good enough for a professional contract with United.

The news also goes to show that United are still prepared to offer trials and do basic ground work in terms of looking for new players.

The resources available to the club means that United are able to consistently buy in the best players from all over the world but this is important because it offers hope to younger players.

It is proof that if a young man works hard enough, regardless of where he is in the world, he can get himself a trial at Manchester United and possibly a big move which is the ultimate dream.

For now it’s a case of watch this space because a lot of players come and go at Premier League giants having major trials but never quite cutting the standard of what’s expected.

Jurgen Damm, have you seen him play? Let us know.
