Gunners forward Gervinho struck the winner for Arsenal as the Ivory Coast won their African Nations Cup opener 2-1 against Emmanuel Adebayor's Togo side. It was an impressive goal scored by the recently maligned attacker, and you can see how Arsenal fans reacted to the news here.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has expressed his disappointment in the lack of privacy football clubs seem to receive in the modern era. The Arsenal supremo was speaking in relation to the recent posting on Twitter of Arsenal’s list of fines for various offences. The list included offences such as tardiness, reading the newspaper and failure to provide urine samples and Wenger was upset that the list had gone public.
Wenger has also gone on record to say there is no concrete interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha; and the news comes as it becomes increasingly clear that Manchester United have won the race to his signature. Wenger says his club ‘were never in for Zaha’ as news broke Tuesday of the impending £15 million deal to take the young England international to Old Trafford.
Newcastle United have become the firm favourites to land the highly talented French international Mapou Yanga M’Biwa from Montpellier. The defender, who can also play in midfield, has been the subject of a successful bid from Premier League rivals Newcastle United, and is expected to undergo a medical at the club this week. Arsenal have previously been the favourites to snap him up but there has never been an official approach for his services.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly ahead of schedule in his return from a calf injury. While no return will be made for the fixture with West Ham in midweek there is genuine belief he will be fit to face Brighton in the FA Cup this weekend. He was originally ruled out for three weeks after injuring himself in training on January 11th but he has made good progress and his return is imminent.
Arsenal have become the latest Premier League side to be linked with a move for promising French teenager Florian Thauvin. Newcastle United have previously shown a reported interest in the talented midfielder and it is believed that the Gunners are considering a £4 million bid to try and pry him away from Ligue 1 side Bastia this January.
Arsenal have been linked heavily with a move for West Ham midfielder Momo Diame and ahead of their previously postponed Premier League meeting this week Arsene Wenger has spoken of his admiration for the dynamic midfielder. While not mentioning the Senegalese 25-year-old as a definitive transfer target his comments have certainly added extra fuel to the fixture considering Diame’s refusal of a new contract at Upton Park; that would not include the current release clause of £3.5 million.
