A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
Rafa Benitez has defended his misfiring striker Fernando Torres by blasting critics of the player as “clueless”. Benitez said Torres had carried a heavy load over the season, and would find it easier now Demba Ba has been signed:
“These people who like to quote stats and stats, they don't have any clue about what is going on.
"When you have one striker for a month and a half and cannot change, it's more difficult for the striker. When you have now two strikers, you can manage."
Despite rumours of an agreement with Barcelona, Thibaut Courtois’ father has said nothing had been decided about the player’s future, and that they will talk to Chelsea once his loan spell at Atletico Madrid finishes. Courtois has been in sensational form in Spain, and it is believed Barcelona want to sign the player to replace Victor Valdes.
Courtois’ form is so good that a new internet craze has started up called “Thibauting” in which people take photos of themselves emulating one of Courtois’ saves in unexpected locations.
If Courtois decides to leave he might be joined by two other Chelsea Belgian loanees in exiting Stamford Bridge, as Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne are both enjoying successful spells away from their parent club.
After beating Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday, Gary Cahill hopes that Chelsea are now too far ahead of Arsene Wenger’s side for them to catch the Blues. Chelsea are 11 points and three places clear of Arsenal.
On HITC today Simon Bunn has argued that Pep Guardiola’s choice to snub Chelsea and take over at Bayern Munich was a victory for decency, whilst we also look at five Premier League and Championship managers that could take over at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
In transfer news, there have been rumours that QPR might offer out of favour midfielder Florent Malouda an escape route out of Chelsea. The 32 year old has been ostracised at Stamford Bridge after turning down a move in the summer.
CSKA Moscow are reportedly keen to take Marko Marin on loan until the end of the season. The midfielder has made only eight first team appearances for Chelsea this season, and his agent Fali Ramadani has suggested the player has several options:
"I will not hide the fact that Marin has several interesting offers of a loan until the end of the season.
"I cannot name clubs, but I can say that the offers come both from Western and Eastern Europe.”
