If the Sunday newspapers are to be believed then Arsenal have found their new defender and they will do anything they can to get him.
Arsenal are believed to have tabled a £2.5 million bid for Stoppila Sunzu of TP Mazembe which is thought to be higher than the fee Reading have offered.
The deal could go either way because Reading offered the player a trial and held talks with him and his representatives over a Premier League move.
Reading’s deal is thought to be in the same price range but Arsenal are supposedly offering the cash up front which would put them in pole position before add-ons if TP Mazembe are simply about the money.
Either way, one of the clubs is set to sign a promising 23-year-old international defender who has a lot to offer English football.
His height of six feet three inches means he shouldn’t have any problem dealing with the aerial threat posed by a lot of Premier League sides and he also cuts a very imposing and strong figure which will help with the more aggressive side.
He looks quick and good on the ball which is important for any defender coming into the Premier League for the first time. Reading and Arsenal are sides that like to pass the ball out from the back where possible.
He seems so close to a move to Reading that the chances Arsenal can get in quickly with a better offer and agree terms better than Reading’s are slim.
However, if real and official interest does develop from Arsenal then it will be very difficult for Sunzu to turn down a move to the Emirates because it opens up a wider range of possibilities in a football sense.
He also seems very much like an Arsene Wenger sort of player in the respect that he is cheap compared to normal Premier League fees, hungry because of his background and looking to prove a point to maintain his place in the Zambia side.
The player himself has already admitted that he is happy with how his trial went at Reading and he is happy to sign a contract with the club, once the finer details of the transfer have been sorted out.
If there is genuine interest from Arsenal, then they need to act fast!
