Real Madrid would be a backwards step for Javi Garcia

Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia could be on his way to Real Madrid but it could be a catastrophic move.

Javi Garcia is not the first name you think of when hearing that Real Madrid are interested in a Manchester City midfielder.

He has made 19 appearances for Roberto Mancini this season and is only in and around the current side due to the absence of Yaya Toure.

According to the Express, Real Madrid are interested in him but a transfer could just mean he goes from a squad filler at one club to a squad filler at another club.

The fee being talked about is in the region of £16 million which seems the going rate on the modern market for a technically sound and fully fit midfielder.

What you also need to look at is the current variety of midfield men who are already in the Real Madrid squad.

Is Garcia going to get into the team ahead of Luka Modric, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira or Kaka?

It could even been the start of speculation that Modric, Ozil or Kaka could be on their way from Real Madrid but Garcia will need to produce some sort of dramatic transformation if he is going to get into the team ahead of any of them.

Michael Essien is only on loan at Real Madrid from Chelsea and Luka Modric has failed to settle leading to reports from Spain that he will be sold in the summer.

If Garcia is going to leave City then it can only be in the summer unless Mancini has a senior moment and lets his cover for Toure leave before the end of January.

It’s this point of cover which is not going to leave Garcia, he is going to be bought by Real Madrid as cover for someone else as opposed to a player who is good enough to write his name on the team sheet automatically each week.

However, Garcia did start his career with Real Madrid and he is a product of their youth system.

His situation is remarkably similar to that of Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona in the respect that Fabregas came up through Barcelona, was sold to Arsenal and then got a move back to Spain once he’d matured.

It just doesn’t seem to add up but would Garcia rather be a squad player at home or in Manchester?

Do you think Garcia to Madrid would be a good move?
