Manchester United’s publicised pursuit of Wilfried Zaha may oddly help the club’s pursuit of Ajax star Christian Eriksen.
The impending retirement of Paul Scholes means Manchester United are going to be looking for a top quality replacement in his position at the end of the season.
Christian Eriksen of Ajax is one such player who is more than good enough to take up that role in the United side but there is a major reason why it’s not being publicised.
The club’s public courting of Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha shows that United are still the heavyweights if there is a player they are intent on signing.
Robin Van Persie is the other perfect example because he could have gone to Manchester City or Juventus last summer but chose Old Trafford over both.
Reports across the internet and in the national papers this morning have suggested that United are back in the mix to sign Eriksen, scouting him and monitoring his situation in the Netherlands.
If they put together any sort of formal contact with regards to this player, then they stand a very good chance of singing him.
United have faced tough opposition from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for Zaha but it seems the young England international is Old Trafford bound.
There seems to be two basic reasons that give United pulling power when there is a lot of competition for the players they are interested in.
The first and most important is the manager. Sir Alex Ferguson is a proven success in terms of taking younger players, developing them and nurturing them in a squad filled with superstars.
The second is the history of the club and the chances of success that playing for United guarantees.
This is the main reason Van Persie signed for the club last summer and will continue to be a main reason that many stars sign for United in the next few years.
The only concern for United and an area where they can be sometimes outgunned is in terms of finances.
The club is not in a position to match some of the wage deals that other clubs can offer younger players like Eriksen which is a main reason why any potential deal may fall through or be hijacked.
Do you think United will land Eriksen if they are officially interested?
