Chelsea buttering up for Isco transfer - but haven't Manchester City already done that?

Chelsea have allowed Lucas Piazon to go on loan to Spanish side Malaga; who despite success on the pitch are in financial purgatory. Are they buttering up Malaga for a potential move? And have Manchester City not already done that?

Chelsea have allowed young Brazilian talent Lucas Piazon to go on loan to La Liga side Malaga until the end of the season to gain vital match experience. He is now one of many talented young players out on loan in the continent from Chelsea joining the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne and Gael Kakuta.

Considering they currently only have Fernando Torres and Demba Ba at the club who are recognised strikers it could be deemed an odd decision to allow Piazon, a more than capable centre forward, leave the club during the seasons run-in (unless they have transfer activity up their sleeve).

For Malaga it is a great deal as they have acquired a talented young forward for a pittance to help them through a busy period as they battle for a high finish domestically and remain in the Champions League after a brilliant Group Stage campaign.

However Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini stops just short of being a miracle worker and he was always going to struggle to sustain the good form in 2013 without dipping into the January market. However The Anchovies, who at one point were splashing the cash frivolously, are no longer the kingpins of finance after much of their funding from Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani dried up.

These problems forced them into the sale of players such as Santi Cazorla, Salomon Rondon and Joris Mathijssen in the summer and now bringing players in is no longer a question of clicking fingers for increased budgets.

So Chelsea allowing Malaga the pleasure of Piazon’s services is a good piece of business for Malaga; and also for Chelsea.

Chelsea are one of many teams including Manchester City reported to be in the race for Malaga’s star player this season; Isco.

Despite not yet playing for the Spanish national team he has caught the eye with several superb performances this term and at 20-years-old he also acts a brilliant investment for the future.

If the financial peculiarities at Malaga continue into the summer Isco will become an asset and the clubs who have been clamouring for his signature will come knocking at the door. Chelsea’s ‘goodwill’ loan may set them in good stead in any potential transfer battle.

But wait that should be said about any team who have allowed Malaga a player for the season right?

A team like Manchester City who have allowed Roque Santa Cruz the opportunity for first time football at La Rosaleda this season?

Have Manchester City and Chelsea potentially buttered Malaga up ahead of Isco pursuit?
