News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours
Arsenal are being linked with a sensational bid for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan forward is one of the world’s leading marksmen and has been a transfer target for Manchester City and Chelsea in the past. While his price-tag of £35 million may seem a tad steep for Arsene Wenger’s tastes it is believed they are open to stumping up the cash for the player when the quotation inevitably drops at the end of the month. Arsene Wenger has directly addressed his admiration for the striker and it is believed they are serious about a bid.
He also admitted the clubs interest in Crystal Palace sensation Wilfried Zaha. He said the club have been looking at him but stopped short of suggesting they had actually made a bid for the 20-year-old. It comes after Manchester United, considered their biggest rivals for his signature, admitted their interest in the England international yesterday but also confirmed no move would be done until the summer.
Lyon have rubbished reports that they offered Yoann Gourcuff to Arsenal this week. The clubs long serving president Jean-Michel Aulas stated that the 26-year-old, despite all his recent troubles, was not currently with or had ever been in talks with Arsenal despite reports to the contrary yesterday.
Arsenal scouts reportedly watched Momo Diame in action for West Ham last night in the FA Cup third round replay with Manchester United. As Arsenal booked their place in the fourth round with a Jack Wilshere goal against Swansea scouts from the North London club were at Old Trafford assessing the potential of the dynamic midfielder who is reportedly available for just £3.5 million due to a clause in his contract.
Arsenal are once again being linked with Montpellier playmaker Younes Belhanda. The Moroccan international is being strongly linked with a move to Fenerbahce but is reportedly far more keen on staying in Western Europe. Tottenham have also been reported as holding a vested interest in the player who helped propel the unfancied French side to the Ligue 1 title last season.
Reported Arsenal target Jake Hutchings has signed a professional contract at Torquay United. The talented Londoner, 17, had been linked with The Gunners along with Manchester United and Chelsea but The Gulls were wary of losing him on the cheap so moved quick to tie him down to a professional deal.
