Manchester United have sent an open invitation to any of their rivals looking to sign Wilfried Zaha. Should Arsenal or Tottenham swoop?
Manchester United are on the verge of a £12 million deal for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. They are expected to agree a deal with the Championship side before loaning him back to the club for the rest of the season.
United were tipped as the hot favourites to sign Zaha some weeks ago but this latest news will put rivals for the player on red alert.
It’s basically last chance saloon for any team that was thinking of hijacking the deal and it’s still possible. Any club could come in with a higher bid than United’s offer which Palace could well accept.
The problem is that Zaha may be intent on a move to Old Trafford so any subsequent offers or deals that come together from other sides, may risk alienating the player before he’s even signed for them.
“He is one of the players that we are looking at - that’s all I will say at the moment. Even if we did do something with Wilfried, that would be for the summer,” United chief executive David Gill told the Mirror.
If United are going to sign Zaha in the summer as opposed to doing a deal this January, then it is much riskier for them because it gives other sides that are interested, time to put together decent bids.
It also gives them time to talk the player, and his representatives round, in terms of convincing him that United may not be the best place for his future.
This seems to be rubbish though because the biggest giveaway is Gill’s admission that United are interested and looking at the player.
Bear in mind that the top sides don’t come out too often and add to speculation so this confirmation could be a sign that talks are currently ongoing over a deal which will be finalised this January.
It has to be this January or United may miss out on him altogether which would be negative for the club because Zaha is undoubtedly one of the best wingers in the country at the moment.
United have history of pulling off this sort of deal as they agreed something similar for the arrivals of Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez, two linchpins of the current United side.
United fans! Do you expect a deal to be done by the end of this month?
