The Montpellier captain helped his side win the Ligue One title last year and can play anywhere across the back four. He has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United in the past. Talksport are today reporting that Newcastle are to make the first move for him.
Newcastle are also eyeing Ajax captain Siem de Jong, write The Mail. The playmaker is valued at £9 million and has seven goals in 18 games for his club this season.
