Football League Transfer Talk: Including Forestieri and Earnshaw

Watford, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City and Blackpool all feature.

Watford have signed Udinese striker Fernando Forestieri on a huge five-and-a-half year contract. It seems that Watford’s Italian boss Gianfranco Zola has used every bit of his knowledge of the Italian market to pick out the striker and convince him to commit his future to the club.

Peterborough United have told Nottingham Forest that they will have to up their bid for striker George Boyd. Peterborough’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed the club had rejected a bid from Forest which he described as ‘derisory’. The club are set to hold out for top cash despite the fact Boyd is out of contract this summer.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says he is fully prepared to let Lee Martin’s contract run down before deciding whether to offer him a new deal. The Ipswich gaffer has said players are flying around frantically this January and he doesn’t see any sense in making hasty transfer decisions.

Nottingham Forest boss Alex McLeish has confirmed he wants to sign three players before the end of January. He has confirmed he is in the market for a goalkeeper, an attacking wide player and a striker which he sees as vital towards helping the side secure a play-off position.

Cardiff City striker Rob Earnshaw has revealed he wants to move to America to play in the MLS. He had been sent out to Israel to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv but has said he couldn’t stand the constant threat of violence and attack during his time in the troubled nation.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Simon Gillett will not be leaving the club this January. The midfielder has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract despite speculation linking with a possible move away to many of Forest’s Championship rivals.

Steve Thompson says he is good enough to be signed as the new manager of Blackpool. There has been talk the club’s current caretaker boss could be moved on along with former manager Michael Appleton. However, he has said he is fully committed to guiding Blackpool to a crack at the play-offs.
