Everton have found their replacement for Maroaune Fellaini according to French media sources.
Remember the name Etienne Capoue because you could be hearing a lot more of it over the coming weeks if Everton agree a deal for the highly rated Toulouse midfielder.
L’Equipe suggested last week that Marouane Fellaini was on his way to Chelsea with Capoue his like for like replacement available at a fee Everton could afford.
Capoue has been capped by France four times and is expected to complete an Everton medical by the end of this week. The fee is being reported as around the £10 million mark.
Just because Capoue is apparently signing for Everton does not mean that Fellaini is already out of the door at Goodison Park.
The Belgian has reiterated his desire, throughout talks and speculation over his future, that he would like to stay at Everton if the club can secure Champions League football by the end of the season.
As a player Capoue fits the ‘Fellaini bill’ well in the respect that he is physically tall and looks strong, which should enable him to have an instant impact in English football.
Whether he can be as effective as Fellaini in an Everton attacking side remains to be seen because Fellaini is superb at drifting in the space between midfield and attack and generally making a nuisance of himself.
Capoue has been consistent for Toulouse so far this season with a record of 18 games but just three goals, which Everton will be hoping improves if he becomes a Toffees’ player by the end of January.
There are still a few rumours floating around that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also interested in Capoue and it would be hard for him to turn down a move to the Emirates if Arsenal put a deal together.
However, he is guaranteed playing time should he join Everton and most online French media sources are pointing the way to Merseyside but then again, the whole QPR-Remy saga has shown that anything is possible.
