Carlos Tevez is mulling over a new contract to stay at Manchester City and in the city he apparently hates.
The u-turn that Carlos Tevez and Manchester City have performed since Tevez was apparently about to leave the club is amazing.
According to morning reports, Tevez is mulling over a new contract which will keep him at the Etihad until at least 2016. Bear in mind, this is the player who said he hates Manchester and routinely thinks about leaving.
This was before the whole Bayern Munich affair when Tevez refused to carry on warming up as a substitute in protest against a defensive decision that Roberto Mancini had made in the Champions League match.
The club, the player and the manager all deserve massive credit for the way the situation has been handled since the point where it seemed like Tevez had no future at the club.
“I've one year left on my deal and City want me to sign for two more seasons. I'll think about it. This year is different from last, when I wanted to end the contract with City. I'm happy here as they're treating me well,” said Tevez as in the Daily Mail.
Mancini deserves credit for almost being the better man in the whole affair. He said after the Bayern Munich game that Tevez would never play another game for the club.
However, he has stepped down and after accusations from Tevez that he was being mistreated, Mancini seems to have looked at that and tackled it in a professional way.
The club deserve big credit for nursing the clear emotional feelings and longings that Tevez has for his life back in Argentina. They have made every effort to allow Tevez to see his family and bring them to England to keep him happy.
Finally, Tevez deserves a lot of credit for getting his head down and working hard. Few would have blamed him had the deal to go to AC Milan been pulled off but he made the best of a bad situation and he’s arguably the best striker at the club.
It seems all along that all Tevez wanted was to be treated a little more fairly and to at least be given the option of being closer to his family.
The Bayern Munich affair was an example of this frustration boiling over when it became clear that Tevez was never going to get on the pitch in the match. However, it’s done and City fans should fully expect him to sign on.
What do you think of Tevez’s apparent u-turn in relation to City?
