The Daily Express is reporting that Arsenal are lining up a move for a Bacary Sagna replacement. Who is he?
Arsenal have dropped their biggest hint yet that Bacary Sagna could be on his way out of the club with the news that Arsene Wenger is considering a £5 million bid for Toulouse’s Serge Aurier.
The problem with Sagna seems to be squabbles over his next contract with the Gunners with Arsenal reluctant to commit a lot of cash to a long term deal.
This could force them to move Sagna on at the end of the season or even at the end of January if they can get a good replacement in through the door at the Emirates.
Aurier is an Ivory Coast international so he has experience of playing at the highest level of football and he has been a regular for Toulouse so far this season in Ligue 1.
The stumbling block in a potential deal could be the fact that Aurier only joined Toulouse from Lens last January.
Therefore, they may be reluctant to move him on so soon after he signed for the club but any multi-million bid from Arsenal will be difficult to turn down.
It seems like an extremely shrewd and savvy potential signing for the Gunners with Arsene Wenger once again demonstrating his knowledge of the French market very well.
However, it’s important Arsenal fans don’t get too carried away with this potential signing because there is evidence that the club are not looking to add in this position.
Had Arsenal wanted a top class international right back then surely they would have put up a fight for the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Lille.
Debuchy has just signed a long term deal with Newcastle United and almost certainly would have chosen a move to the Gunners before a move to the North East.
So why would Wenger ignore the availability and possible transfer of such a high quality player who would seemingly be a perfect fit for his club and squad?
It could simply be that the Arsenal boss expects all parties to reach an agreement over a new deal for Sagna, in the same way that a deal for winger/striker Theo Walcott seems to be very close.
Tell us what you think, do Arsenal need a new right back? Is it time for Sagna to move on?
