Aston Villa chase young Brazilian

Brazil International

Inter Milan have confirmed that Aston Villa are interested in signing young Brazilian Philippe Coutinho.

Just over two months ago I wrote an article concerning players that I would like to bring to Aston Villa Football Club if I were Paul Lambert. Forgive me if I’m just about to present myself as being sanguine but, it would seem that Villa’s Scottish boss may have been reading.

Out of a short list of five, one of the suggested deals happened to be the loan signing of Inter Milan’s Philippe Coutinho.

Quite clearly it has taken Villa’s scouting team a while to cautiously suss out my subtle prompt but, it has been confirmed that the club are indeed interested in bringing the talented adolescent Brazilian to the club on loan.

The players agent Cacau Barbosa has been quoted as saying, ‘Aston Villa made an enquiry for Coutinho, but nothing serious has been discussed as of now - - They want him, but with all due respect for the proposal made to Philippe, at this moment there is still nothing concrete to suggest an exit from Inter.’

The 20 year old 5ft 8in attacking midfielder signed for Inter Milan, for 4 million Euros, as a 16 year old. A bright future was anticipated for a boy who’s ball skills are as flamboyant as his naturally curly hair, but Coutinho has been limited to just 27 appearances for the Italian giants.

He spent the second half of last season at Espanyol, scoring 5 times in 16 games. With one full Brazilian cap to his name Coutinho would be a welcome boost for Lambert’s team.

Although a beastly central midfielder and an experienced defender must remain priorities for Villa’s bid to beat the drop, an unfamiliar creative force will help a side that are the joint lowest scorers in the Premiership. He may also prove useful in the ‘Capital One’ Cup, when Villa aim to unlock Bradford’s stern defence and turn around a 3-1 deficit in two weeks time.

In the unlikelihood that Lambert is reading my work then Marko Marin is next on the list please…
