Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is going nowhere in January

The England international has been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford this month but surely that will not come to fruition?

Manchester United are certainly a club on a high at the moment. Top of the league in the New Year and still in the Champions League it is certainly proving to be a better season than last year already. One of the key components to this success was an astute summer transfer period where Sir Alex Ferguson saw fit to splash the cash on Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie. It was a risky move considering his age, injury record and price-tag but so far, so good; it seems the gamble has paid off.

RVP added to what was an already handsome looking amount of options in attack with Wayne Rooney and Javier ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez also at the club. In fact the resurgence of Hernandez’s form after a sloppy second season at Old Trafford could also be a contributing factor. Among it all however one striker has suddenly found himself further away from the first-team; England international Danny Welbeck.

It is unfortunate for the young man as when he does play he certainly looks dangerous but he does not carry the same goal threat as the three players more senior than him in the reckoning for the starting XI.

Such a drought of first-team opportunities has even started to throw fuel on the flames of a potential loan-deal for the striker with Reading strongly linked this week. Other clubs such as Newcastle United would also be more than happy to have him on the books till the end of the season.

But surely there is absolutely no way that will happen?

It is an old tale but one that is cemented in truth that Sir Alex loves having four frontline strikers in his arsenal and this season is looking no different. 2013 will prove a hard and arduous year for The Red Devils as they chase League, Cup and European glory and you can rest assured Welbeck will have a massive hand in that.

Not to mention the sketchy injury record of Wayne Rooney so far this season and that looming spectre of 2009-10 in regards to their Dutch talisman’s fitness.

While he cannot expect to be a starter for much of the season Ferguson will rely on Welbeck to take the heat off this pair when the schedule necessitates and for that reason Welbeck will be going nowhere in January.

Do you think Manchester United could send Welbeck out on loan this month?
