News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted he would not swap Reds striker Luis Suarez for United striker Robin van Persie, despite the controversy the Uruguayan causes and the abuse and criticism he brings on himself and the club.

The Guardian have released the provisional squad sheets ahead of Sunday’s clash between United and Liverpool at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Wayne Rooney will not recover in time from a knee injury to take place on the bench, however both Nani and Anderson do travel. Rooney could instead feature in the cup replay with West Ham in midweek.

United defender Rio Ferdinand has echoed statements made by Paul Scholes’ comments earlier this week that Liverpool remain the biggest rival club for United ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

A map on Twitter has revealed the location of United fans across the country in an attempt to dispel the myth that most United fans reside outside Manchester.

La Liga pundits have picked their 'dream Premier League XI in response to the all La Liga FIFPro team, but only one United player features in comparison to six from rivals City. See if you can guess who the United player chosen is...

In transfer news, Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is reportedly keen to extend the loan deal of United youngster Michael Keane, and United have been linked with Spanish maestro Benat - hailed as 'Xavi's understudy' in the Spain side, but any deal will not take place until the summer with the Real Betis player keen on staying until the end of the season. His contract expires in 2014 but Betis want any suitor to pay the release clause of 20 million Euros.

The Manchester Evening News claims Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha has moved ‘closer’ to signing - despite Sir Alex Ferguson's denial of a deal, with The Metro reiterating there is action taking place behind the scenes at Old Trafford to sign up the youngster, whilst Chelsea outcast Frank Lampard is reportedly not going to sign for the Red Devils, along with Leighton Baines who looks set to stay at Everton.

It is also being reported that Rayo Vallecano striker Leo Baptistao, linked with United earlier in the week, is close to tying up a deal to Atletico Madrid,  with some sources already claiming the deal is complete.
