Loic Remy is a name that has been mentioned in dozens and dozens of rumour stories with QPR and Newcastle United thought to be in a battle for him.
Well according to the Independent, Arsenal have now thrown their names into the ring as a possible destination for the striker but it could well be a case of the rumour mill going a bit mad.
You have to question the logic behind such a link considering Arsenal already have top quality strikers in Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski with Theo Walcott closing in on a new contract with the club.
Secondly, you have to look at Arsenal’s winter transfer policy over the last five years. Arsene Wenger rarely makes big signings in the winter period with Andrey Arshavin joining the last high profile example.
It could be the case that these rumours are only doing the rounds because of Wenger’s connection with French football and his ability to get French players to join his Arsenal team and perform at their very best.
However, if there is any truth in this connection to Arsenal then it’s much more likely that Remy would join the Gunners over QPR or Newcastle.
Remy’s former agent recently said that there was no chance that Remy would join Newcastle and Harry Redknapp has even popped over the channel to have a chat with him but couldn’t convince him to move to the Premier League strugglers.
It’s not all about England and there are other clubs that are after him; Schalke and Internazionale. Either of these clubs may be willing to pay him more than Arsenal so the financial motive behind Remy leaving Marseille cannot be discredited.
Marseille may even be doing a slight u-turn on reported speculation that they were happy for him to leave. Remy was present in a recent training camp run by the club which would seem pointless if they were going to force him out before the end of the month.
He’s clearly a highly rated striker but if he was desperate to get out of Marseille then he more than likely would have already done so. Don’t read too much into this but the beauty of rumours is that they must have started somewhere close to the player.
Is there any chance of Remy signing for Arsenal? If he does, is Wenger losing it? Let us know your thoughts.
