The Spanish side is reportedly in the midst of a financial crisis and may be forced to consider letting some of their prized assets go. Could the likes of Spurs, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in particular take an interest?
As we all know the world is gripped in a financial crisis. The Euro has suffered significantly and that has seen several countries struggling with huge debt and one such country where this is particular prevalent is Spain.
That financial strife transcends into sport and in La Liga nearly every team is suffering from some form of financial difficulty. Deportivo are on the point of meltdown, Malaga have an extremely tumultuous financial situation while the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Osasuna and Valencia are not much better off.
In recent weeks however it has been Sevilla who have courted much attention for their apparent financial woes. The team that dominated the Uefa Cup at times last decade and challenged the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of La Liga are now struggling on the pitch; and off it.
Major outlay on players such as Luis Fabiano and Freddie Kanoute in the past has not paid off in the long run as age caught up with both and they left for practically nothing. It leaves the club in apparently dire financial circumstances and having to look at some of their better players as assets this January.
While a pinch of sorrow should be felt for the club it also acts as a perfect opportunity for English sides to scavenge on this wounded animal for the best it has to offer.
So which five players could interest the Premier League scavengers this month?
Probably going to be the main attraction at any Sevilla boot-sale this January. The Spanish international recently admitted he would crave a move to the Premier League and that has alerted the likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal and Spurs to his availability. An original asking price of £18 million is pricy but in light of recent circumstances Sevilla may have to budge on their valuation.
The Chilean international could certainly make a great addition to a Premier League midfield. A biting midfielder with the nickname ‘Pitbull’ he can also fill in at centre-back when times are desperate. His disciplinary record is sketchy at best but he would still prove a great acquisition for a Premier League team.
The Croatian is one of the best talents from his country and has superb technical ability. Reportedly set for a move to Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow could a Premier League side do the dirty on Slaven Bilic and steal him from under their noses?
A great footballing conundrum is what to do with Jesus Navas’s career? The Spaniard is one of the countries most gifted wingers but his crippling homesickness has so far prevented his progression away from Sevilla. However with his home-town club in trouble getting a sizeable transfer fee for their best player might convince him to leave. His homesickness has improved in recent years so the likes of Arsenal may come back in for him.
A talented Spanish youth international who has certainly started to make a name for himself in Spain. An excellent reader of the game and passer of the ball he is all you would expect from a 19-year-old Spanish midfield prodigy and would be a welcome addition to any Premier League team.
Would you like to see any of these players in your team?
