The two previously played together at Internacional and that relationship along with the potential to join many other compatriots should give Chelsea the edge over potential rivals.
Chelsea have already done one piece of excellent business in the January window with the signing of Demba Ba from Newcastle for just £7 million and are now in the process of attempting to tie down a another players allegiance to Stamford Bridge.
The player in question is not what you would call a household name but based on what you hear about his precocious talent; and what you can see from the Marco Van Basten-esque volley that has been circulating the web over the past five months he is certainly a hot prospect.
Taison currently plays with Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv, Newcastle United’s opponents in the next round of the Uefa Europa League, and has been causing a stir in Eastern Europe ever since his arrival in 2010.
A deal between the two teams seemed to be on the cusp of completion at the start of the year but now however it has hit an undisclosed snag in proceedings. It is believed the two clubs cannot yet agree over a fee while rumours have also begun to circulate that Premier League rivals Manchester City are ready to challenge Chelsea to his signature.
This however is where Chelsea can surely trump Manchester City in any pursuit; through current player Oscar. The two Brazilian talents played together during their time at Internacional; a point that was even recognised by Taison himself in a recent interview:
"I went to England (some weeks ago) just to take a look. I talked to the president. I see Oscar, who I played alongside at Internacional, and I want to play with him again."
The previous alliance with Oscar is one thing while in general Chelsea’s high Brazilian contingent would also tempt Taison into a move. The likes of David Luiz, Ramires, Lucas Piazon and new-boy Wallace are all already at the club which would make any transition a much smoother operation.
As it is for now a deal seems to be petering out despite the Metalist manager himself believing that Taison should be allowed his dream move to the Premier League.
Based on the previous relationship with a potential future co-worker and the easy bonds he could fuel with compatriots already at the club there is no doubt that if this comes to a straight fist-fight; Taison will choose Chelsea every time.
Do you feel Taison can add something to Chelsea’s game?
