Two striking targets who yesterday had seemed unattainable for Spurs have opened the door to potential exits. Sevilla had previously said they wanted to hang onto Alvaro Negredo despite financial problems, but the Spanish international striker has encouraged potential bids for his services.
The Premier League is a great competition, I really like it and I think my style of football would be well-suited to it, I’ve spoken to the guys playing in England, mainly when we were together at Euro 2012 because we had a lot of free time,’ I spoke to Mata and Torres and I know they really enjoy it.
‘They have a different way of experiencing football over there compared with Spain. The players say it is easier to go out and about there. Here, it is quite difficult to leave the house but they say there is not as much scrutiny in England, and I like that.’
Chelsea, despite signing Demba Ba, remain interested in his services, along with rivals Arsenal, and Spurs could turn to him if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of Leandro Damiao.
Tottenham were previously said to be pursuing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar prior to him signing a new contract with Schalke, and they will be taking note of recent reports in Germany. Newspaper Bild is today reporting Huntelaar has a 15 million Euro buyout clause in his contract.
No deal is likely this month, but Huntelaar could take another look at his options in the summer, hence the inclusion of the clause, and if Spurs beat Arsenal to the Champions League places he would remain an option for them rather than being off the table entirely as previously thought after he renewed his contract. It would simply have acted as a mechanism to allow Schalke to get cash for his services rather than losing the Dutchman on a free as previously feared.
Tottenham defender William Gallas is wanted by former manager Harry Redknapp across London at QPR, report The Mail. Redknapp has just lost Ryan Nelsen who will depart to coach FC Toronto once this weekend's fixture is over.
Transfer target Wesley Sneijder's agent has rejected talk his client could move to Turkey, saying 'every day there is a new club linked with Wesley'. Spurs have been installed as the bookies favourites to sign Inter Milan's unsettled playmaker.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has hit out at Chelsea's lack of long-term planning, commenting that he is enjoying the stability of life at Tottenham. You can read his interview with Sky Sports here.
Emmanuel Adebayor is now certain to head to the African Nations Cup, despite words with his manager who privately expressed his unhappiness at the striker's decision. Adebayor is still available for the clash with QPR this weekend but will depart afterwards.
