Liverpool latest: Including Suarez and Kalou

All of the latest news about Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers has refused to criticise striker Luis Suarez for his handball during Liverpool’s winning goal against Mansfield Town. Suarez clearly handled the ball before he passed the ball into the net with the fourth official later stating the incident was seen but not deemed to be deliberate. Many have said Suarez should have owned up.

Striker Daniel Sturridge says he is some way off full match fitness despite scoring on his Liverpool debut against Mansfield Town. Sturridge played the majority of the 2-1 FA Cup win for his new club but says he is lacking the sharpness in front of goal which he knows he has.

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique could be out for a further six weeks with a hamstring problem. The left full back picked up the problem during the recent match against Queens Park Rangers and is almost certain to miss the mega weekend clash against rivals Manchester United.

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton says he is under no pressure to sell star midfielder Tom Ince. Liverpool made a bid for the player around two weeks ago which Blackpool rejected because it was too low. Appleton has said that’s the end of the matter until Liverpool come back with a better offer.

Former Chelsea player Salomon Kalou has revealed that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in bringing him back to the Premier League. Kalou is currently playing his football for Lille in Le Championnat and could be available with both Liverpool and West Ham United interested.

Liverpool are reportedly locked in a battle with Southampton over Italy international Davide Astori. The Cagliari centre back was linked heavily with a move to Juventus but TalkSport has revealed that it’s a straight fight between Liverpool and the Saints to secure the services of the 26-year-old.

Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland could replace current number one Pepe Reina if Manchester United try to sign the Spaniard. Liverpool have been linked with Butland since the summer and any Reina departure to United or another club may force Liverpool into making a bid for the young shot-stopper.

Further speculation has linked Liverpool with a move for Dnipro right back Samuel Inkoom. Liverpool were linked with the 23-year-old in the build up to the January transfer window and Chelsea have now emerged as possible competitors to sign the player.

Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has criticised Brendan Rodgers over the signing of Daniel Sturridge. Lawrenson suggests that Demba Ba would have been a better acquisition for the club instead choosing to join Chelsea in a cut-price £7 million deal which triggered a release clause in his Newcastle contract.
