Howard Webb? Fans react to referee appointment for Manchester United v Liverpool

Twitter Sign

Howard Webb has been appointed the referee for the game between these two great rivals this weekend. Twitter has had its say on the matter.

In light of the storm that has grown ever since Luis Suarez bundled in a goal against Mansfield that accidentally struck his arm in the process the FA were obviously keen to appoint a strong referee for Liverpool’s next fixture. In fact that is nonsense as a strong referee was always going to be needed when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

While in recent years the rivalry has unfortunately not always bared much consequence on highly significant competitions both teams still hold a fierce rivalry. Indeed there is certainly a case that the game between the two is far more important than that between home-town rivals Manchester City and Everton respectively.

So a strong and experienced referee has indeed been appointed; the man who officiated the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Howard Webb. Oh wait that’s right how could I forget… some fans do not take kindly to Webb being given United games to handle.

He has earned a reputation for being slightly favourable toward Sir Alex Ferguson’s men throughout his career and as you can imagine his appointment has caused a small stir on the social network site Twitter in which many people took to the interactive platform to vent their frustration of pleasure in the appointment either with gusto and vitriol or through mild-mannered good humour.

Here is some reaction to the news…

Do you think Howard Webb is favourable to Manchester United?
