News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates
Swansea held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw in the third round of the FA Cup with a late goal from Danny Graham proving decisive. Earlier in the game and Michu had scored within moments of entering the fray but Arsenal fought back with two goals in quick concession late in the fixture. First Lukas Podolski grabbed an equaliser before Kieran Gibbs scored a volley just minutes later before Graham’s late intervention.
The replay will be televised and played on Wednesday 16th January at The Emirates.
The winner will face Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex in the fourth round.
Jack Butland has emerged as a transfer target for Arsene Wenger this January. The Birmingham and England stopper is reportedly available for £6 million pounds amongst much financial trouble at St Andrews. Wenger is reportedly looking to bolster his options in the goalkeeping department as Lukasz Fabianksi is leaving in the summer while Vito Mannone has not impressed in his outings for the first-team. He will face competition from Southampton, Everton and Liverpool for the talented stopper.
A slightly more fanciful option has been mooted on the internet today as Spanish captain Iker Casillas has been linked with a move to The Emirates. The Real Madrid stopper has fallen out with gaffer Jose Mourinho and has been dropped to the substitute bench as a consequence with Adan replacing him.
Napoli forward Eduardo Vargas could also be a transfer target this January. The Chilean international has not been a regular in the Serie A side this season and looked set to be on his way to represent Sao Paolo in Brazil before Arsenal made their intentions clear to Napoli. Any deal would be an initial loan but there would be scope to make any deal permanent at the end of the season.
Denilson looks set to be on the verge of a permanent exit from The Emirates. The Brazilian midfielder has enjoyed two very successful seasons on loan at Brazilian outfit Sao Paolo who are now all set to bring him in permanently despite some talk of a potential return to The Emirates this January.
Per Mertesacker was reportedly a major force behind Johan Djourou’s decision to move to Hannover 96 on loan for the rest of the season. The Swiss international applied the finishing touches to his move this weekend and the German international reportedly advised him to make the move; advice that Djourou was happy to take.
