It was an impressive fightback from both teams in South Wales yesterday afternoon with an entertaining game ending in a draw thanks to late goals from Kieran Gibbs and Danny Graham.
Notable in Arsenal's line-up was the return of Olivier Giroud to the starting XI after six games out of it. Theo Walcott had come in at centre-forward and excelled particularly with a hattrick against Newcastle - a match in which Giroud scored twice off the bench himself, but overall the Frenchman found himself the odd man out.
Making way yesterday was Lukas Podolski who ended up coming off the bench to score Arsenal's first goal. Giroud had found his name in the headlines on Friday after Arsene Wenger stated he chose not to sign Demba Ba because he had him instead, and it would have been perfectly timed for the manager had last year's Ligue One top scorer bagged a goal.
Well he didn't do that, but he did provide the assist for Kieran Gibbs' strike, not the first goal he has laid on for a teammate this season. He also tested Michel Vorm early in the second half with a rasping drive, also floating a header wide from a cross.
What did Arsenal fans make of his performance? Are they keen to see him in the starting line-up on a regular basis? We took to Twitter to take a look at the general consensus and here are the results...
@jam_afc: Giroud had a strange game IMO. Not as dangerous as he needed to be. Should of had 1 goal today.
@iamlkenna: The beauty of Gibbs goal lies behind the left loop from Giroud!!!
@ahmed_underscor: World class assist from Giroud. Very important player for arsenal
@sanketgooner: We need a proper striker, give someone like David Villa the number of chances that Giroud got,he would have won the game easily.
@the_afc: Wish all the players cared as much as Wilshere. Only other player close to looking like they care is Giroud.
@harrystarling: Giroud is so underrated! Love him
@arsenal_inv: Our ratings for today: to I think it would be best and fair to give everyone 6 bar Gibbs, Podolski & Giroud to get 7 for their contributions
@alialshakarji: Giroud's assist was identical to the one he provided Podolski for his volley vs Montpellier.
@gold_gooner31: Because Giroud doesn't start regularly he tries so hard to impress that it make's him rush his decision's like that shot.Needs a run in team
Should Giroud be a regular starter for Arsenal? What do you think?
