European transfer round-up: Including Rossi and Pato

A former Liverpool target features along with ex Manchester United and Arsenal stars in a run-down of the continents transfer stories from the past 24 hours.

Napoli feature heavily along with Fiorentina, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Siena, Villarreal, Valencia, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, Real Madrid, Ajax and Athletic Bilbao.

The biggest transfer story emanating from the continent this Friday is the apparently imminent acquisition of Giussepe Rossi by Serie A side Fiorentina. The Villarreal forward is reportedly ready to return to Italy for the first time since a loan deal with Parma in 2007 in a deal worth upwards of £10 million including bonuses. He would not be available until mid-March due to a series of knee injuries that have disrupted his progress in the past two years. The deal may hinge on medical assessment of those knee problems. With his club currently playing in Spain’s second division he has been looking for a move for a while and the former Manchester United striker may be a long-term replacement for the reportedly unsettled Stevan Jovetic.

Staying in Italy and it appears Napoli are looking to improve their squad by moving for Siena pair Emanuele Calaio and Neto this January. Napoli are in search of defenders after the suspensions of Gianluca Grava and Paolo Cannavaro and the sale of Salvatore Aronica to Palermo. Meanwhile Calaio would act as backup for Edinson Cavani.

Napoli could also be on the verge of selling Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas back to South America while they could pursue the signing of Mathieu Flamini from AC Milan according to comments attributed to Silvio Berlusconi.

Also in Serie A Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Tomasso Rocchi from Lazio after protracted transfer negotiations and speculation. City rivals AC Milan have however said goodbye to a striker as Alexandre Pato has agreed a deal to return to his homeland with Club World Cup champions Corinthians of Brazil. The deal is believed to be worth €15 million and the 23-year-old has signed a four-year-deal.

In Spain and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has revealed he may not finish his career at the club. He is reportedly keen to experience new cultures and styles of football when his contract expires at the club next season and has not ruled out a move to England or Italy.

Algerian international Sofiane Feghouli, who had been a transfer target for Premier League clubs, has signed a new deal at current club Valencia which will see him staying at the Mestalla until 2016.

Athletic Bilbao have also been in the news by confirming that contract rebel Fernando Llorente is set to start conversations with Italian champions Juventus over a move to Italy this month. He is available on a Bosman deal in the summer after refusing to sign a new deal with his long-serving club.

In other news Paris Saint-Germain have distanced themselves from a potential move for Cristiano Ronaldo, former Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy is in talks with Ajax … Ajax Cape Town that is while Ajax of Holland have lost one of their youngsters, Yener Arica, to Turkish outfit Kayserispor.
