Can the transfer of an ex-Manchester United player help Manchester City sign Stevan Jovetic?

Jovetic Fiorentina

Giuseppe Rossi this weekend signed for Fiorentina. The former Manchester United player could be seen as a direct replacement for Stevan Jovetic who has been linked strongly with Manchester City in the past.

Injury hit Italian international Giuseppe Rossi has clinched a long awaited move back to Serie A with Fiorentina.

The former Manchester United striker would become available as of mid-March according to initial reports regarding his current ligament damage rehabilitation meaning the club would not be looking to move on any of their frontmen in January to surplus the deal. However in the summer that scope may change with one big name in particular likely to attract major attention; Stevan Jovetic.

The Montenegrin forward, like Rossi, has struggled with injuries in the past but when he does manage to stay fit he is a precociously talented player who has become one of Europe’s most coveted talents.

With the arrival of Rossi Fiorentina are signing a player who plays in essentially the exact same position as the Brian May lookalike and while the thought of playing the two together may excite Viola fans the likelihood is that moving Jovetic on may be a necessity in terms of finances.

This would surely be music to the ears of several Premier League clubs. In the past Juventus have been named as a likely destination for the player but with the news they are chasing Fernando Llorente may put paid to that destination; while the Milan clubs would both be great destinations neither team is blessed financially at the moment.

Leaving the Premier League’s top teams ready to scrap it out with Spanish, German and French teams (well PSG anyway) for his potential signature.

The club that has previously been linked with this signing has been Manchester City. With the Mario Balotelli situation not getting any clearer with time it is becoming clear that they may need to strengthen their attacking options and former team-mate Matija Nastasic could also act as a perfect bargaining deal.

Could it be that the transfer of an ex-Manchester United player helps Manchester City get their man?
