Arsenal back in for M'Vila?

Long-term Arsenal target Yann M’Vila seemed to have pushed the self-destruct this year and subsequently scuppered his chances of a move to the Premier League.

His poor discipline both on and off the field ended Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s interest in him irrelevant, as the Gunners boss grew concerned about his attitude.

The 22-year-old Rennes midfielder is hailed as one of his generations most promising talents and, with the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona in the summer, Arsenal are now back in the market for a defensive midfielder of the quality that the Frenchman possesses.

His discipline on the pitch has at times left a lot to be desired, compounded by his arrest for allegedly punching a 17-year-old at his home last year. To round it all off was his suspension from participating in the French international team until 2014, due to his escapades in a nightclub the night before he was due on U21 duty.

He also has an unpleasant history with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud – his compatriot game on for M’Vila as a substitute in an international match and, as M’Vila left the field he refused to shake the hand of the Arsenal striker.

So, there are many reason why Arsenal shouldn’t sign the young Frenchman but there are also a few very good reason why they should – for starter, his contract expires this summer and, subsequently, Rennes are offering him around for a bargain fee of around £12 million. A player of his quality and potential could very well cost almost double that.

The other reason is his undeniable quality – he is exceptionally technically gifted, his passing and movement superb and he could provide the Gunners with the steel and bite that many feel they’ve been lacking since the departure of Patrick Vieira.

Speaking of Vieira, he had what some may describe as an ‘attitude’ and, in fact, it was that spark and feistiness that made him such a dominant force in both English football. He won the World Cup with that attitude and he helped Arsenal to lift the Premier League trophy and FA Cup with that attitude.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal now have London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and QPR as for company – both clubs are keen on a cut price for potentially one of the best young talents of his generation. The player has expressed his desire to leave Rennes and the club want to sell him in January before his contract expires.
