Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Fryers signs and more to follow?

News, views and gossip relating to Tottenham over the last 24 hours.

Tottenham have clinched the signing of Ezekiel Fryers from Standard Liege. The 20-year-old defender was playing with Manchester United up until the end of last season, and had been strongly linked with White Hart Lane before making a surprise switch to Belgium. The move now looks like a cleverly orchestrated ruse by Spurs who have avoided a tribunal with Manchester United who could have been awarded up to £6 million in compensation at the time. The fee Spurs will pay Liege remains undisclosed.

It is unlikely Fryers will be the only piece of business at Spurs this January. A player the club have today been linked with is Croatian midfielder Anas Carbrini. The 25-year-old plays for Saudi side Al Ittihad, and his agent told Sky Sports that Tottenham have opened negotiations for his signature, and 'really want' to get the deal done.

Midfielder Yann M'Vila has stated he is keen to listen to offers from the Premier League this transfer window. The holding player has been linked with Spurs over the past few weeks, and he remains an option for the club. The 22-year-old is currently at Rennes in Ligue One, and many have tipped him for a step up to enhance his career.

Tottenham target Willian has been talking up a move this month in an exclusive interview with FourFourTwo magazine. Andre Villas-Boas said this week he remains keen on the Shakhtar player, and the attacker has Spurs and Chelsea as his top destinations, describing Tottenham as a club with 'great structure and great players.'

Defender Younes Kaboul is out until February having suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury which has kept him out of action since August. Benoit Assou-Ekotto could however make his long-awaited return for this weekend's FA Cup tie at home to Coventry.

And finally, one who flew the nest, Luka Modric, has admitted to struggling do adapt to life at Real Madrid. He was voted the worst signing of the season in a newspaper poll by Marca, but remains confident he can prove his ability in the closing months of the season.
